Abstract:The Damping Solvent Extraction Method (DSEM), which considers the
radiation damping by introducing artificial high damping to attenuate
wave motion and then extracting its influence through shifting the
frequency axis, can simulate the dynamic properties of inhomogeneous
infinite medium and make the coupling of a time-frequency domain
eliminated, so the research on generalizing the method to engineering
application has practical value. A time-domain model based on User
Programmable Features (UPFs) for implementing the DSEM within commercial
finite element software ANSYS is presented. The structure and unbounded
foundation are modeled as two separate substructures, and a coupling
element is formulated for considering the effect of high damping on the
structure and a practical external-interface is developed with ANSYS for
evaluating interaction forces on the structure-foundation interface.
Numerical examples show the reliability and good validity of the
presented model. Further more, by taking the advantage of the rich
element library and powerful numerical solvers in commercial finite
element software, the presented model can be used for solving
sophisticated dynamic structure-soil interaction problems.
