Abstract:The propagation and patterns of cracks in rock mass caused by the blasting stress wave are dependent on the stress wave loading rate, the peak value and the mechanical properties of rock. Numerical simulations about rock borehole fracturing were performed using the dynamic version of two dimensional rock failure process analysis(RFPA2D) which is a numerical software based on linear elastic damage mechanics on mesoscopic scale and FEM. The different peak values of stress wave and loading rates were analyzed while taking the heterogeneity of rock into account. The numerical simulations show that the number of cracks generated in the rock is increased with the stress wave peak. The faster the loading rate is, the more the cracks are and the longer the cracks are. ?, 2015, Northeastern University. All right reserved.
