Abstract:Realistic Failure Process Analysis (RFPA~(3D)) software is used to
simulate the short concrete-filled rectangular steel tube columns under
axial compressive loading. The relationship between the ultimate bearing
capacity and the length of the columns is presented, and the effect of
cross-section area is also considered in the present simulations. The
results of numerical simulation indicate that the ultimate bearing
capacity is adversely affected by the length of the columns. As regards
the ultimate bearing capacity, the simulation results agree well with
the experiment observation. The results indicate that RFPA~(3D) seftware
is effectively in capturing the failure characteristics of the
concrste-fdied rectangular steel tube columns, denoting RFPA~(3D) could
be used as numerical tool to evaluate the design of concrete-filled
rectangular steel tube columns.
