Abstract: Whether research-oriented universities can realize the efficient management of education cost, will have a great impact on the competitiveness of the universities and the country and the social science and technology level. So in this article, based on the characteristics of research-oriented universities, a specific efficiency index system of education cost was established, and an empirical study was done on the education cost-efficiency of research-oriented universities by the DEA model, using 32 research-oriented universities statistics in the 2010 for the sample. The results showed that the overall average cost efficiency of 32 research-oriented universities was high, but the cost-effective proportion was low, and the allocation of education cost investments is unbalanced.
