  • Abstract:

Due to the electrode wear in micro EDM, the electrode has to be prepared long to compensate the wear length. Although there is no directly mechanical contact during EDM, the force generated by electrical discharges may cause the long and thin electrode to bend, resulting in the hole diameter larger than expected. In this paper, a simple model is used to estimate the deflection of the electrode. Experimental results indicate that the theoretical values agree with the machining results. The influence of the electrode rotation speed on the diameter of a micro hole is studied experimentally.
