Integrated process of coal pyrolysis with CH 4/CO 2 activation by DBD plasma: Analysis of char and tar

Abstract:To understand the integrated process of coal pyrolysis with CH 4/CO 2 activation by DBD plasma, FT-IR, GC and GC/MS analyses of the pyrolysis products were carried out. The char samples taken from top and bottom position of the char layer under different atmospheres were analyzed by FT-IR. The results showed that the existence of plasma can affect the decomposition of coal, and the interaction between plasma and coal is different from thermal pyrolysis of coal. Different plasma atmospheres have different effect on coal. GC and GC/MS analyses of the volatile fraction of tars showed that phenol, naphthalene and their homologues are the dominant components, and the integrated process of coal pyrolysis with CH 4/CO 2 activation by DBD plasma is beneficial to upgrade the quality of coal tar.
