Abstract: Axial-strain-induced torsions of chiral double-walled carbon nanotubes are studied. Effects of interlayer van der Waals interaction, chirality and curvature of inner and outer tubes are investigated. Results show that the van der Waals interactions change dramatically the induced torsion, while the chirality and curvature dependences are rather weak. (c) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
