Abstract:While it is well known that knowledge sharing is essential for organization to maintain competitive advantage. This study is to examine the impact of several key factors that may affect knowledge sharing within project teams in China. By surveying managerial employees from different project teams in the construction sector, this study shows that both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated individuals tend to share more knowledge with their team members. Individuals with high altruism are also more likely to share knowledge with others. Moreover, explicit knowledge facilitates knowledge sharing while tacit knowledge creates barriers to knowledge sharing. The implications to knowledge management research and practice are also considered in this study. ? 2010 IEEE.
