Abstract:The thick large circular storage tank of heavy launch vehicle is made of 2219 aluminum alloy and welded using friction stir welding (FSW) technology. To explore the temperature distribution of friction stir girth welding in circular storage tank and select welding parameters, a simulation model of temperature field is established based on ABAQUS/CEL method, combining the amplitude-periodic function to define the mechanical boundary condition and implement motion synthesis based on the parallelogram rule to realize the trace setting of the tool during welding stage of girth welding. The simulation model is verified through temperature measurement with infrared thermal imager. By comparing with the temperature field of FSW plate, the temperature distribution rule of girth welding circular tank is explored. Optimizing with the goals of reducing the length of heat-affected zone and the temperature difference in the thickness direction of the weldment, the process parameters are obtained based on the response surface method–multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm. The Pareto optimal solution set is obtained which provides guidance for the selection of welding process parameters.
