Abstract:Residual stresses and work hardening as two important indexes of surface mechanical properties in metal cutting, have significant influences on service performance and life of parts. Generation mechanism and experiment study of two and three dimensional finite element simulation of cutting process and analytical re-search method of residual stresses in the metal cutting were discussed. Domestic and overseas research status of work hardening in traditional cutting is summarized from the perspectives of research methods, cutting parameters, cooling, lubrication and tool parameters. In addition, research status of residual stresses and work hardening in micro cutting are summarized. Finally, research directions of surface mechanical properties in traditional cutting and micro machining were proposed.
