Abstract: This paper proposes a new modeling method of the fault-tolerant three-level neutral-point-clamped static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) under switch open-circuit fault conditions, in order to achieve accuracy and rapid real-time simulation. In this method, fault models can be decomposed into several models, and each model represents a certain operating state in fault conditions. On this basis, a real-time simulation is built on a dSPACE platform, and the simulation step can be reduced to 1 mu s. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is thoroughly demonstrated under normal and fault conditions.
