Abstract:Charpy impact performance of U-shaped and V-shaped notch 1Cr17Ni2 samples after different heat treatments was studied based on the analysis of impact absorbing energy, fracture morphology and area percentage of fibrous fracture. It is found that the AKU2 values of U-shaped samples meet the requirement of standard but the AKV2 values of V-shaped samples are very low. There is no corresponding relations between AKU2 and AKV2. Fracture morphology analysis indicates that fibrous fractures are characterized with ductile fracture, while crystal fractures are composed of cleavage fracture and intergranular fracture. The area percentages of fibrous for U-shaped notch samples are higher than those of V-shaped notch samples, suggesting the impact test of V-shaped notch samples can evaluate the brittleness tendency of 1Cr17Ni steel more distinctively. It is therefore reliable AKV2 values by using V-shaped specimen is recommended to judge toughness when a high impact property of 1Cr17Ni steel is required in service environment. ©, 2014, Editorial Office of Transactions of Materials and Heat Treatment.
