Abstract:The concept of multi-stage combined engine is advanced in this paper, and this engine is applied to HEVs (Hybrid Electrical Vehicles). The fuel economy characteristics of new power system with combined engine and that of normal power system with conventional engine were compared and analyzed by numerical simulation in different driving cycles. The simulation results show that when the combined engine is used in HEV the maximum fuel economy improvement will be over 8%, which achieves the mild hybrid system and reduces the cost. After the fuel economy of HEV with combined engine is simulated in different State of Charge and engine power ratio conditions, it is concluded that designing the 2-stage combined engine at equal power ratio is more reasonable.
