Abstract: A novel method called JCCI(jet controlled compression ignition) was
   proposed to control combustion timing of premixed compression ignition
   diesel engine. The combustion timing and emission experiments were
   conducted on a JCCI engine modified from model 186F single cylinder
   diesel engine. Results show linear relationship of spark timing in
   ignition chamber versus CA10 and CA50 over a wide load range. NO_x
   emissions of the JCCI engine are greatly reduced at all test loads
   compared with original diesel engine, max. decrement reaches over 90%.
   Soot emission is reduced by 92% in medium and high loads and close to
   original diesel engine at low load. THC and CO emissions are also much
   higher.
