Abstract:In Buckling Restrained Braced (BRB) frames, the axial and shear force on the column base is more critical compared with conventional moment resisting frames. Quasi-static tests of exposed column bases with BRB were conducted. It was found that the column base was uplifted when the BRB force increased to maximum tension strength. The friction force between base plate and mortar lay will be absent and then slip of base plate will occur. In this paper, a numerical study was conducted to investigate the effect of the slip of base plate on the BRB behavior. The effects of the number and size of anchor rods on the slip were briefly discussed. ? 2013 Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK.
