Abstract:The preloading variation of bolt joint relies on the elastic interaction between tightened bolts significantly. But how to characterize the elastic interaction essentially and truly is still an intractable problem. In this article, an analytical interaction stiffness model is established through stress distribution analysis. The effect of interaction stiffness on the preload variation of tightened bolt was investigated, such as the magnitude of preload variation and the judgement of change direction of preload and the influence scope of elastic interaction was also predicted analytically and numerically. From the cliff-style interaction stiffness variation curve of typical 2-bolt joint, it was found that there was always an obvious singular point indicating no elastic interaction in a certain place between the two bolts. From comparison, the predicted results using the developed model were consistent with the FE simulations. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
