Abstract:With the features of both activated sludge and fixed biofilm process, MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) has outstanding merits in wastewater treatment process. In this study, process performance and microorganism community were analyzed in two full-scale MBBR-based WWTPs (wastewater treatment plants). The results showed the effluent could almost meet the first level A standard of the requirement of Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant in China. The community structure and spatial distribution of total bacteria and nitrogen removal microorganisms were investigated by using some molecular biotechniques. It showed favourable biodiversity for both total bacteria and nitrogen removal microorganisms. Besides, a certain amount of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria co-existed on MBBR carriers, which was benefit for nitrogen removal from domestic sewage. This study demonstrated the distinct advantages of MBBR in domestic wastewater treatment field.
