Numerical investigation of floating breakwater coupled with mooring system using OpenFOAM

Abstract:OpenFOAM is an open-source package and its application in coastal and offshore engineering have shown a remarkable increase. A mooring system is added into the OpenFOAM source code, and a floating breakwater (FB) coupled with the mooring system is simulated based on the extended interDyMFoam solver. The transmission coefficient and reflection coefficient of the FB are investigated. The time series of the motion responses of the FB are obtained. Comparisons between the numerical results and the experimental data have been made. Surface elevation around the FB and mooring forces are presented during the simulation. The results have indicated that the present numerical model is efficient and accurate for modelling wave interaction with moored floating structures.
