Abstract: Carbon fiber (C fiber) toughening nanoscale Al2O3-ZrO2 eutectic was prepared by ultrasonic-assisted directed laser deposition (DLD). The eutectic spacing detected by TEM was 50 +/- 5 nm, which was 5-30% of the Al2O3-ZrO2 eutectic. The reasons for the decrease of eutectic spacing were analyzed from two aspects: ultrasonic-assisted and C fiber addition. The fracture toughness was 8.7 +/- 0.2 MPa m(1/2) measured by indentation crack length, which was about 2.5 times higher than Al2O3-ZrO2 eutectic. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
