A Skew Detection Method Based on Periodic Texture

Abstract:The document image can be regarded as a image with periodic textures. By the aid of Fourier Transform, this paper presents a new method to estimate the skew angle from the power spectrum of the image. The spectrum in the frequency domain can indicate the texture periodicity in different directions, so the skew angle of spatial image can be evaluated in the frequency domain. The skew angle is computed without any iteration and the running time can be shorten by Fast Fourier Transform. The experimental results illustrate that the new method is fast, accurate and robust.
