Abstract:A method was presented to automatically extract simplified models for thin-walled components of the vehicle body structure,aiming at obtaining a suitable geometric simplification for beam-plate-coupled automobile body structures. The simplified model consists of 1D lines and 2D planes,which correspond to the beam and plate components respectively. The paper started with defining the necessary conditions which determine whether the geometric sweep can be applied to the local regions for approximation. Based on these conditions,the beam-plate structure was segmented into initial local sweeping and non-sweeping regions. Then the simplified model was constructed based on the local regions with their sweep properties and connection types. The proposed method was proved to be highly efficient to obtain the target simplified model,and was validated by comparing the automatic extraction with the manual extraction.
