Abstract:The dynamic stiffness matrix method for determining dynamic characteristics of crankshaft is developed.Crankshaft is modeled into a series of space continuous beams.At the given boundary conditions, dynamic stiffness matrices of space continuous beam, which includes rotating inertia and shear deformation, are given. The overall dynamic stiffness matrix of crankshaft, which includes tran-scendent functions, is assembled in tum. The eigenvalues and eigenvectors of crankshaft are calculat-ed by Wittrick-Williams (W-W) algorithm and common methods respectively. An example of 4 cylin-der in-line crankshaft is given to evaluate the performance of the presented method. Solutions calcu-lated by the finite element method (FEM) and experimental results are also enumerated for compari-son. The results show that the current method is accurate and effctive.
