Detailed mechanism reduction using global sensitivity analysis based on reaction class

Abstract:In the present study, a new reduction method of detailed chemical mechanisms was proposed using the reaction class-based global sensitivity and path analyses. During the reduction process, the importance of the species and reactions in a detail mechanism was determined based on the contribution of their corresponding reaction classes on the prediction uncertainties by calculating the nominal sensitivity index and the path sensitivity coefficient of each reaction class in the detailed mechanism. Furthermore, the dependence of the reduction target on the operating temperature, pressure, and equivalence ratio was investigated. After establishing the initial reduced mechanism, the optimization of the rate coefficients of large-molecule reactions was performed to improve the nominal predicted value of the reduced mechanism over wide temperature range. Based on the proposed method, a detailed n-heptane mechanism including 645 species and 2827 reactions was reduced to a reduced one containing 89 species and 276 reactions. By comparing the calculated ignition delay times and species concentrations using the reduced mechanism with those of the detailed mechanism over wide operating conditions, the performance of the reduced mechanism was evaluated. Good agreements on the predicted results between the reduced and detailed mechanisms indicate the advantages of the present reduction method. ?
