Abstract:This paper presents a systematic framework for the representation of superstructure, modeling and solution in complex distillation sequence synthesis. The improved state-space (SS) superstructure has all the earlier known alternatives embedded within it and contains the substructures incorporating the missing configurations. This provides a more complete network for the optimization task. The conception of Super Column (SC) based on state space is introduced for problem transformation. The mathematical modeling of Super Column is performed with mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP). Then the derived optimization model is solved by a modified solution procedure, in which the key item is an iterative initialization scheme. A case study, on multicomponent separation, is employed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
