Abstract: Risk management is significant for successful construction project management. Effective risk assessment can improve construction enterprises' competitiveness and profitability to a great extent. The information of previous projects is a very precious resource for construction project risk management. In order to facilitate project participants to query required information among numerous project documents efficiently, this paper introduces ontology as the modeling approach for information exchange and researches on semantic retrieval based on this ontology. After studying how to construct risk domain ontology using the seven-footwork modeling method first, this paper then researches on projects' document processing and querying sentences' expansion. Finally, this paper designs a semantic retrieval system framework based on construction project risk domain ontology and makes the ontology's conceptual knowledge and the documents' contents related, which can improve the information's semantic expression ability and realize the intellectualization of project risk management. ? 2013 American Society of Civil Engineers.
