Abstract: A new cobalt phosphate, Co-3(H2O)(4)(PO4)(2) (1) has been synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data for 1: orthorhombic system, Pnma, a = 10. 582(2) angstrom, b = 18.289(4) angstrom, c = 5.0236(10) angstrom, V = 972.2(3) angstrom(3), Z = 4. The compound displays complex threedimensional framework containing one-dimensional 8-membered ring channels. In this crystal structure, CoO4 and PO4 tetrahedra connect each other by sharing-vertex to form the infinite two-dimensional sheet which contains the edge-sharing four ring chain and double zig-zag chain, then these sheets are pillared by CoO2(H2O)(4) octahedra.
