Experimental investigation on the effect of bolt-hole perpendicularity error on joint strength

摘要:An experimental investigation was performed to investigate the effects of hole perpendicularity error on joint strength of single-lap single-bolt composite joints. Besides the tightening torque and bolt-hole clearance, the magnitude of perpendicularity error and hole tilting direction which are used to represent the hole perpendicularity error are argued in this study. It was found that the ultimate load of composite joint may decrease up to 11.0% when the magnitude of hole perpendicularity error increases from 0° to 4°. To preserve the joint strength, higher tightening torque is preferred. In addition, increasing the bolt-hole clearance can lower the effects of perpendicularity error on joint strength. Finally, that the hole tilting along the load direction causes less decline of joint strength. © 2016, European Conference on Composite Materials, ECCM. All rights reserved.
