Abstract: The aim of this paper is to develop a modified 4-point approximating subdivision for curve/surface design with local interpolated constraint and smooth piecewise design. The modified subdivision curve is of C-1-continuity at the interpolated control vertex. Based on the modified subdivision, a G(1)-continuity condition between two limit curves as well as surfaces is given. A 4-point approximating curve subdivision scheme is also extended to surface subdivision on meshes with arbitrary topology, the limit surface is of C-2-continuity almost everywhere except at extraordinary vertices where they are C-1-continuous. A surface subdivision algorithm with local curve interpolated constraint is also discussed for designing surfaces which can interpolate any parametric curve in the end of the paper.
