Abstract: Based on the surface elevation profiles of sea ice in the northwestern Weddell Sea measured by a helicopter-borne laser altimeter during the Winter Weddell Outflow Study, a parameterization of. the form drag on ice ridges is developed by the drag partition theory. Our results reveal that, for the large enough ice concentration, the contribution of the form drag on ice ridges to total drag increases with increasing ridging intensity R-i, e.g. the ratio of sail height and spacing, while decreases with increasing roughness length.
