Abstract:Based on the knowledge of faults configuration, the complexity of physico-mechanical parameters of faults, and the mechanism of groundwater inrush induced by faults, numerical tests with FEM are conducted to investigate the initiation of fractures, activation of faults and formation of groundwater inrush pathway with mechanical model for rock mass with faults in coal mining above confined aquifer. With the understanding of damage evolution, stress field and seepage flow field, the transformation of floor rock mass from water-resisting strata to inrush pathway is clearly illuminated; and the groundwater inrush pathways are calibrated. It is shown that both mechanical characteristics and geometrical configuration, including dipping angle and interval of faults, have an important influence on groundwater inrush. Finally, based on geological, hydrogeological surveys and numerical results, the mechanism analysis of groundwater inrush in an engineering case is studied so as to provide significant meaningful guides for the investigation on mechanism and prevention of groundwater inrush in practice.
