Synthesis of Nano-WC by high-energy ball milling

摘要:Nanosized tungsten carbide (nano-WC) has been widely studied and applied in manyindustries as hard materials since it has good combination of high hardness and strength. Thermalmechanical alloying method consisting of high-energy ball milling and subsequent carbonization is acommon synthetic approach to prepare nano-WC. In this paper, a special milling process has beenreviewed, in which the dielectric barrier discharge plasma (DBDP) is introduced, for the preparationof nano-WC. The DBDP milling renders the W+C powders with specific flake-like structure possibleowing to the cooperative effect of DBDP and mechanical milling. The obtained W+C powders areactivated significantly within shortened milling period. Furthermore, pure nano-WC powders can besynthesized after subsequent carbonization at a significantly lowered temperature. DBDP milling isdemonstrated to be an efficient way to synthesize nano-WC. ?
