Abstract: We present an ultra-short distributed Bragg reflector fiber laser photowritten in Er/Yb co-doped fiber. The total length of the fiber laser is only 8.4 mm. The lasing threshold is less than 1 mW. The optical signal-to-noise ratio of the laser output is around 70 dB. The laser emits two orthogonal polarization modes. The electrical signal-to-noise ratio of the beat signal generated by the fiber laser is better than 70 dB. ? 2009 SPIE.
