Abstract:Random loads may cause serious problems for structural safety or serviceability. However the random vibration analysis of structures has long been regarded as very difficult and costly, which has severely restricted the applications of the theoretical fruits of random vibration. Pseudo Excitation Method (PEM), developed by the authors, their students and colleagues for more than twenty years, has overcome such computational difficulties, and is being widely used in China. This method is not only accurate and efficient, but also convenient to use because structural stationary random response analysis is reduced to the analysis of structural harmonic responses, while structural non-stationary random responses can be computed in terms of any step-by-step integration scheme, particularly the precise integration method (PIM). The basic theory and method, as well as some recent progresses of PEM, are presented in this paper.
