Abstract:As the FEA method has been successfully used in marine structure design, lots of problems have arisen in aspects of modeling efficiency, harmony among different models, and model reliability. With the concept of multi-disciplinary optimization emerging, application of FEA method has being confronted with integration problem. This paper proposes an integrated management framework for marine structure design depending on these approaches. Requirements for the framework are discussed based on the features of the marine structure design process first. Based on data exchange mechanism and integration model, the proposed framework mainly consists of design modification module, model generation module and quality management module. This proposed framework is validated by using a case study, in which a 300 feet self-elevating drilling unit was analyzed and its 3D modeling and design tasks were integrated. ? 2012 Binary Information Press.
