Abstract: The cure kinetics of diaminodiphenylsulfone-cured diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A epoxy resin (DGEBA) and its blends with poly (phthalazinone ether ketone) (PPEK) were investigated by isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results were applied to the Arrhenius equation and the phenomenological model of Kamal. The Arrhenius activation energy increased with increasing PPEK content. The experimental reactions rates agreed well with that of the theoretical in the initial stages of the reaction, but diffusion control was incorporated to describe the cure in the latter stages. The cure mechanism remained broadly autocatalytic in nature regardless of PPEK concentration and the cure temperature.
