Synthesis of all-aromatic polyamides containing the 1,2-dihydro-4-phenyl(2H)phthalazinone moiety

Abstract: The direct polycondensations of 1,2-dihydro-2-(4-aminophenyl)-4-[4-(4-aminophenoxyl) phenyl](2H)phthalazin-1-one with three aromatic diacids were carried out using Yamazaki phosphorylation method. The high molecular weight polyamides were obtained in quantitative yields. The polyamides exhibited high glass transition temperatures which were typically over 310 °C. The three polyamides were readily soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as N-methylpyrrolidone, N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and pyridine.
