Abstract:The oxygen level, acidity and corrosivity of bio-oil were reduced by the extraction and separation of acetic and other carboxylic acids from bio-oil. The removal of carboxylic acid was verified by the increase in pH of the bio-oil from 2.52 to 5.47. The IR spectrum also shows that the carboxyl peak of bio-oil (1600 cm1-1400cm1) was much weaker after separation and upgrading. The aqueous phase separated from the bio-oil contains a large amount of carboxylic acid, which can be converted to calcium magnesium acetate (CMA), an environment-friendly deicer. The product's structure was confirmed by infrared (IR) spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Overall, the extraction and separation of carboxylic acid from bio-oil improves its quality and increases the utilization value of bio-oil. ? 2011 IEEE.
