Abstract:Imidazolium-based ionic liquids have good CO2 solubility. The utilization of this kind of ionic liquids can enhance gas separation performance by improving both permeability and selectivity of CO2. In this study, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazoliumbis (trifluoro-methylsulfonyl)imide([bmim][Tf2N]) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) are dissolved in N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF). Then the homogeneous solution is casted and dried on the supported layer of polypropylene (PP) membrane. With the addition of [bmim][Tf2N], the performance of the membrane is improved. When the content of [bmim][Tf2N] is over 50%, ionic liquid becomes continuous phase gradually and CO2 permeation can reach 34.76 GPU. The ideal separation factor of CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 are 49.51 and 25.14, respectively. With the increase of trans-membrane pressure and test temperature, the permeability of [bmim][Tf2N]-PAN/PP composite membrane increases.
