We reported a method for fabricating non-water based ionic diodes operating under bias-dependent precipitation of ions in one direction of electric field but moving freely to the electrodes when reversed electric field is applied. As a result, redox current will be generated due to the electrochemical reaction in a preferential direction of electric field. The rectification ratio of the diode device reported here could reach 40 under an input AC voltage between +/- 1.5 V. The principle of this study is general and can be extended to the fabrication of ionic diodes with different precipitated ion pairs. (c) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
