Abstract:The SO3 H-functionalized ionic liquid was successfully synthesized and thoroughly characterized, and its catalytic properties in the alkylation of phenol with tert-hutyl alcohol (TBA) were also investigated. The influences of reaction time(t), reaction temperature(T), reactant ratio (molar ratio of phenol to TBA), the amount and the recycle times of ionic liquid on the catalytic properties in the tert-butylation of phenol were studied. Under optimum reaction conditions of T=70°C, t=420 min, n(Phenol):n(TBA):n(IL)=1:1:1, the conversion of phenol and the selectivity to 2-tert-butyl-phenol (o-TBP) were 79.6% and 52.4%, respectively. No apparent loss of activity and selectivity of the ionic liquid were observed after its four recycles.
