Abstract:A series of novel poly(ether imide)s based on the dianhydride containing 3,5-dimethyl phthalazinone was synthesized and characterized. Poly(ether imide)s with intrinsic viscosities of 0. 55-1. 88 dL/g[in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) at 30 degreesC] were obtained by one-step solution polymerization in m-cresol. These poly (ether imide) s were readily soluble in some common organic solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide and NMP. The poly (ether imide) s derived from 4, 4'-oxydianiline and 4,4'-methylenedianiline were also well soluble in 1, 1', 2, 2'-tetrachloroethane and chtoroform. Glass transition temperatures determined by differential scanning calorimeter were in the range of 583-628 K. Degradation temperatures for 5% weight loss occurred all above 439 degreesC in nitrogen.
