Abstract: In this work, the dispersion relation of the flexural wave in a periodic plate with heavy fluid loading is investigated. A numerical approach based on the finite element method is proposed to predict the location of band gaps for fluid-loaded plates. Using the proposed method, a complete band diagram over a two-dimensional lattice is obtained. Furthermore, the relative change of band gap width due to the fluid loading is compared from periodic plates with different material arrangements and physical characteristics. ? 2017 Institute of Noise Control Engineering.
