Abstract:The radome is a shell component to decrease the air resistance in the flying and protect the radar from the affection of environment. But the radome induces a larger boresight error (BSE) to the radar system. The BSE, which influences gravely the homing accuracy of the homing head, must be restricted within an acceptable limit. Modifying the geometric thickness of the radome through grinding is an effective method to decrease the BSE. But how to determine the grinding area and the material removal amount is a very complicated inverse problem. A method to inversely find the grinding area and the material removal amount from given BSE is presented. Firstly, the permittivity distribution at the radome can be inversely solved from given BSE by means of the niche genetic algorithm and the plane wave spectrum-surface integration method. Then, the grinding area and the material removal amount can be determined based on the distribution and the theory of electric thickness. The simulation results show that the proposed method is effective and practical, being applicable for many kinds of radomes.
