Abstract:In order to improve the life span of the continuous casting machine (CCM) mould, a new method named infiltration was applied to fabricate WCu40, WCu30 and WCu25 alloys modified layers on the surface of copper mould. The friction behavior of WCu modified with different W contents and W particle sizes was investigated by UMT-2 friction-abrasion testing machine. The results showed that homogeneous microstructure of WCu modified layers were obtained by infiltration. With the increase of tungsten contents, friction coefficient and wear volume of WCu alloys modified layers decreased correspondingly, and modified layers' abradability was improved. Meanwhile, as the W particle sizes decreased, friction coefficient and wear volume of WCu40 alloys modified layers reduced, and the abradability of modified layers was enhanced. Moreover, the wear surface of WCu40 alloys modified layers was mainly furrows shape wear scar, as tungsten contents increased, WCu alloys modified layers' wear surface had been changed to pit shape wear scar.
