Abstract:The traditional method of strength of material in the static and dynamic analysis has been the fundamental basis for seismic safety evaluation of gravity dam in code of concrete gravity dam design. To simplify the complexity of traditional classical method model in dynamic analysis of gravity dam, in recent years, with finite element analysis technology' s generalization, many beam-mass new models are used in the engineering field, partly replace the role of traditional method model, and reflect certain advantages in treatment of multi-directional seismic coupling problems. In this paper, based on the basic definition of strength of material method,we presented a reasonable mode of dam surface load and established suitability indices in respect to mode, shear stiffness, displacement on top of dam, as well as internal force, then do a detailed comparison between these finite element models. A optimal beam-mass model is suggested by comparison, the resalts from which are consistent with that of traditional strength of material method, therefore the model presented can be used for the structure seismic analysis.
