Scaled boundary FEM solution of 3D liquid sloshing in containers with complex axisymmetric geometry

摘要:The scaled boundary finite-element method (SBFEM) is a novel semianalytical method developed in the elasto-statics and elastodynamics areas that has the advantages of combining the finite-element method with the boundary-element method, and has also unique properties of its own. The SBFEM method weakens the governing differential equation in the circumferential direction and solves the weakened equation analytically in the radial direction, so the simulation precision of this method is high. A weighted residual approach and coordinate transformation between scaled and Cartesian coordinate is used to derive the scaled boundary finite element equations for the threedimensional sloshing problems based on Laplace equation and linear potential flow theory. The formulation of calculation of potential is also obtained. Numerical experiment is carried out and compared with analytical solution. The results show that the present method yields excellent results, quick convergence and less amount of computation time. Furthermore, the sloshing of several containers with complex geometry has also been analyzed. Copyright ? 2013 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
