Abstract:The flow fields around single and two combinations of star shape artificial reefs are investigated both numerically and experimentally. The numerical model is based on the Reynolds Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations embedded with a RNG k-   turbulence model and SIMPEC algorithm. The governing equations are solved by using finite volume method (FVM). Non-invasive particle image velocimetry flow field measurements was carried out to verify the numerical results with different arrangement plan of artificial reefs and inlet flow velocity. Overall, favorable agreement is found between the numerical results and laboratory measurements. The study results help to inform the scale and character of the major current arising from the star shape artificial reefs and examine how the distance between two artificial reefs affects the flow field.
