Abstract:The cladding ingots of 3003/8090 alloys were produced, and the effect of electromagnetic stirring (EMS) on interface morphology of this aluminum alloy cladding ingots was also studied. The interface region of cladding ingots was investigated by metallographic examination and elements distribution analysis of EPMA. The results show that with the effect of electromagnetic stirring, the solidification structure of 8090 Al-Li alloy is obviously refined, and the solute enrichment in the grain boundary decreases. However, the distribution of elements near the interface is nearly not affected by EMS. In the condition with or without EMS, the average thickness of the diffusion layers is all about 90 mu m, and the transition layer of sosoloid is about 50 mu m.
