Abstract:In this study,a pilot scale integrated free-floating biofilm and activated sludge (IFFAS) process was set up for treating industrial wastewater in an industrial park of Northeast China, using electrophilic modified polyethylene as suspended biofilm carrier, which was developed by our lab.The results showed that when the influent COD,NH4+-N and TN concentrations were 139 ~741,19.3 ~ 44.9,29.6 ~ 148.6 mg/L,respectively,the biofilm formation time on the electrophilic modified carrier was about 10 days;and after the pilot scale IFFAS process reached the steady running stage, the average removal rates of COD,NH4+-N and TN reached up to 88%,97% and 80%,respectively,and the effluent concentrations were 36 ~ 48,0.1 ~0.9,5 ~ 14.3 mg/L,respectively,which met the requirement of the first-class A of "Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant" (GB 18918-2002).The effluent quality of the pilot-scale IFFAS process was better than that of the original A2/O process. Therefore,it was demonstrated that the IFFAS process using electrophilic modified polyethylene as biofilm carrier could significantly improve wastewater treatment capacity.
