Abstract:This study examines the crucial impact of non-technical factors on the success of the implementation of enterprise information systems (EIS) in china. Based on the published literatures in China and in the west, four important non-technical factors are defined as managerial. and organizational processes. They include top management support, EIS adoption objective and motivation, change management, and project management. A model is proposed and developed to examine how the nontechnical factors of enterprise information system implementation are managed and its relationship with the success of the EIS. The enterprise information system is defined as the computerized information systems that support multiple organizational functions. The success of enterprise information systems is measured by system quality, information quality, user satisfaction and intended use. In addition, the following organizational contingency factors are introduced in the model: structure, ownership, industry, size, and competitive strategy.
A number of instruments are developed to measure the non-technical factors, the success of EIS, and organizational contingency factors. The model is to be tested and validated in selected Chinese enterprises. The theoretical and practical implications of the study are discussed.
